Battlecake is a five-piece, instrumental, progressive rock, video game music cover band from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The band was formed in the summer of 2008 between John Lee (guitar) and Eugene Kang (bass), with the original intention of forming a funk band. Since then, the idea of a video game music band was only slightly suggested by later members Sam Chien (guitar) and Adam Lederer (keyboards), which eventually became hinted at more by the rest of the band. By the time Tedo Salim (drums) joined, the demand for video game music officially outweighed the need for funk.

The band began by arranging versions of Tetris, Final Fantasy V, and Chrono Trigger music. Since then, Battlecake has grown into a locally recognized band, performing in local anime conventions and holding independent concerts for fans of all ages. Battlecake has also expanded its repertoire since then.
